Austria mileage rates

What you can claim per kilometre for business driving in Austria, set by the BMF under the amtliches Kilometergeld (Kilometergeldverordnung).

The rates in force now

In force from 1 July 2025.

Business mileage rates for Austria
VehicleRate
Car 50c a kilometre for the first 30,000 kilometres · beyond that actual costs are claimed instead
Motorcycle 25c a kilometre for the first 30,000 kilometres · beyond that actual costs are claimed instead
Bicycle 25c a kilometre for the first 3,000 kilometres · nothing beyond that under this method

The 30,000 kilometre allowance resets each calendar year on 1 January. Carrying a colleague on the same business journey adds 15c a kilometre.

Past 30,000 kilometres in a year the Kilometergeld stops and the vehicle's actual costs are claimed instead. The bicycle rate simply stops at 3,000 kilometres.

What that adds up to

15,000 business kilometres in a year comes to €7,500.00 (15,000 km at 50c a kilometre).

Keeping the record

Whatever the rate, the claim only stands up if the journeys behind it do. That means the date, where you went, how far, and why it was business. Reclaim records each trip as you drive, prices it at the rate above, and turns the lot into a claim you can send.

Rates change when the BMF changes them. Reclaim picks new rates up without waiting for an app update, and old trips keep the rate that applied on the day they happened.
